Hooligan’s
Hooligan’s is synonymous with lunch to anyone who is familiar with this Columbia, SC restaurant staple. If you aren’t familiar, seriously, do yourself a favor and go get some Hooligan’s! However, be warned, if you decide to visit this humble yet delicious establishment during the school year, you may get washed away in a sea of hungry high schooler’s looking to grab a nosh before the big game. Don’t go around 3:15, unless you are in to that kind of thing. Now on to more appetizing topics!

The “Mango Rango.” This modest looking sandwich is pure joy. Mango chutney, a slice of green apple, smoked turkey, and provolone, served up panini style (Guy Feiri hasn’t patented this catch phrase yet). Ask for this unexpected combination of deliciousness with a side of the pesto pasta #protip. Bring a friend and have that lucky individual order the “Ivan Special”.
Named after the charismatic owner of Hooligan’s, Ivan’s creation is a healthy portion of both roasted and corned beef, layered with swiss, bacon, lettuce, and tomato, on whole wheat toast. A thin spread of mayo brings this whole sandwich together, with a pickle and side of chips to round out the meal. Grab a cup of that special kind of marble sized ice that everyone tries to emulate, but nobody else has mastered, and get yourself some sweet tea. Congratulations, you just found your new lunch spot. There are plenty of other tantalizing items on a menu that you can check out here.
Not included in their daily menu is a blackboard of specials that includes tasty treats such as the Turkey Bacon Gyro, Avocado Club, and Tomato Panini. Lucky for you, the ever changing menu can be seen here, accurate for only a limited period of time…
The menu is very reasonable, around $7.50 for a basket and regular drink (free refills), the staff pleasant and energetic, and the meal delicious. This will not be the last post featuring Hooligan’s.
Located in Trenholm plaza near the intersection of Forest Dr. and Trenholm. Address and menu can be found here.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Hooligan’s – I’ll have to try it again soon.
Hooligans is such a Forest Acres landmark! Hotdogs are great and so is everything else. Such a great atmosphere. Definitely the place to go when in high school some years back, but its nice to go there now. Makes you feel young again!
Great blog, Cousin!
